What is pediatric care?

Pediatric care is medical care for newborns to older teens. It covers early childhood (birth to age 5), middle childhood (6-12), and adolescence (13-18). After age 18, they transition to adult primary care. 

Pediatric care includes routine checkups (well-child care) and urgent care visits for illness and injuries like strep throat, ear infections, flu, scrapes, cuts, and sprains. 

Additionally, Healthcare Now offers newborn circumcision in the office.

What can we expect during pediatric care visits?

Pediatric care is the best way to help your child grow into a healthy adult. It’s not just about monitoring physical development and hitting developmental milestones, although those things are vitally important. 

Pediatric care checkups also monitor and support emotional, behavioral, and social development. It helps your child avoid disease and enjoy a healthy and happy childhood.

• Complete physical exam
• Immunization review
• New immunizations as needed (based on the latest CDC guidelines)
• Height, weight, and body mass index (BMI) check
• Vision and hearing check
• Screening for developmental delays or disabilities

When does my child need vaccinations during their pediatric care?

Healthcare Now sets up a schedule of pediatric care visits based on your child’s age and personal needs. The ages for these visits (and some of the key vaccinations needed) are:

• 1-7 days old: Hepatitis B vaccination
• 1-month checkup: second hepatitis B dose
• 2 months: Dtap, Hib, IPV, Prevnar®, and rotavirus vaccinations
• 4 months: Dtap, Hib, IPV, Prevnar, and rotavirus vaccinations
• 6 months: Hepatitis B, Dtap, Hib, IPV, Prevnar, rotavirus vaccinations
• 9 months: checkup
• 12 months: blood hemoglobin and lead check and MMR, Varicella, and hepatitis A vaccinations
• 15 months: Dtap, Hib, and Prevnar vaccinations
• 2 years: Hepatitis A booster
• 3 years: checkup
• 4 years: Dtap, IPV, MMR, and varicella vaccinations
• 5-10 years: yearly checkups
• 11-12 years: Tdap, Menactra®, and HPV vaccinations (two doses, six months apart)
• 16 years: Menactra booster
